Question 2006 E350 Wagon

Back with a few questions after doing detail review of this site. I am looking at a low mileage 2006 E350 Wagon. I understand the different engines, but when I look on Edmunds they show the 2006 E wagons either having a 5 speed or 7 speed transmission, depending on whether it is 4 matic or not. They show the non-4 matic as having a 7 speed. Question do all 2006 E350 wagons come with the 5 Speed (722.6) or the 722.9 By reading the numerous post, the 7 speed is more problematic and cost more to rebuild.

Also, do all 2006 E wagons come with Airmatic rear suspensions.

Beside the 4 matic having 4 wheel drive and higher initial cost to purchase. What are the other difference over a non 4matic. Normally Mercedes includes equipment on a 4 matic which are an option on non 4 matic.

2008 E350 4Matic, 2011 E350 4matic
Read the thread on the balance shaft problem which affects all 2006 E350's and think of getting a 2007+ that's out of the range.

And to answer you question, the 4matic had the 5 speed, the regular RWD had the 7 speed, those were the only two transmission choices. They didn't go to a 7 speed on the 4matic til 2010+, but that's the W212 body.

Airmatic was usually standard on the rears for the wagons.

You can use this vin decoder to see what options the car has:

The 4matic was usually just a body style, then you add the options on top of it so there's not really extra options on 4matic that you don't get on RWD. You might be thinking of higher trim levels. The E550 had airmatic and real leather as standard and normally most of the ones you find tend to have a lot more options. They also upgraded the brakes but that was standard and not an option.

Yeah I wouldn't touch an 06 wagon unless it has receipts for the balance shaft.
