faulty trans or TC
Hi. I recently towed my 2004 E320 a long way. This is because it broke down during a long drive from home. MB dealer there said they couldn't find the problem. Turned out to be a bad battery only. So, having towed it back and spent ages trying to get it to run again (for some reason the computers needed resetting. It now does run fine. However, it no longer goes into gear. Could the trans have been damaged from the tow? I cant understand why it worked before the tow and not now. Can anyone offer any suggestions. Thank you.

Did you have it on flatbed?
|
no. I had it on a tow dolly. Front wheels on. Rear wheels on the ground. Trans in neutral.
|
MB never allows towing with wheels on the ground.
That might be exaggeration for short tows, but suppose with engine off- transmission pump is not pumping oil on the bearings. I guess there is 1 way to find out. |
OK. So you think I may have damaged it by towing it? How do you suggest I test that, and what could be wrong do you think? Thanks

Looks like you have 5G transmission.
On benzworld forum you will find member handle MAVA. He is expert indy in those transmission and posted thousands advises about them already. Since those transmission were installed in several different models, the info is spread between the sections, but it is all out there. Good luck |
Thanks for the advice. Ill look him up.
