On center feel

I had my car in because the steering wheel was not straight up and down when going straight. It was off from a 12 o'clock position by 3 or 4 degrees. They did something so that the wheel is closer to a 12 o'clock position when the car is going straight. Not sure if its my imagination but the feel on center now seems more vague. Is there some adjustment that effects the crispness of the steering and the on-center feel? Thanks

They adjusted the the steering wheel by adjusting the tie rod lengths, probably screwing up alignment. I'll bet they made the adjustment without using an alignment rack, just turning the tie rods an equal amount.

If the dealer is competent, they should do an alignment for you. If not, go to a really good alignment shop (ask a local Porsche club for a recommendation). The $120 you spend will be well worth it. The whole handling will be better.

I actually feel as if my straight ahead wheel position is NOT 12 o'clock either, but I feel it is at about "6 minutes" past (on a clock dial). Its noticable, but I am wary of a dealer doing a sloppy 1/2 assed cure, so I did nothing. You are probably correct in saying a good alignment should cure the condition, particularly if you tell them up front "how many minutes before or after 12" your wheel is.

I had mine adjusted. They simply took the steering wheel off and installed it correctly in the straight ahead position.

No change to the alignment was done.

I don't think that is possible.

That was probably just fixing the symptom rather than the cause.
