You do realize it was a fairly small amount of M156 engines that were affected by that. It's a known problem but not any where near as bad people would have you believe.
Brakes are expensive, but not horrible when going aftermarket.

It's the same issue as the balance shaft in the 2006 E350. Only affects a certain percentage, but it's good to know about it when you're considering buying one. There are even some driving around in 2003 E320s with the original radiator even when they were well known to fail and ruin the transmission.
Some people like playing Russian roulette, others don't which is why they ask for info first before making a major purchase.
