Car was not used much this winter. (very cold record cold) . was only started to move parking spots
Here are details: mechanic says was not able to see the module in software scanner. unit was not able to boot up when power was applied. " tried to start you could tell but it was dim and then stopped." of course, no mention of instrument cluster in warranty, it is probably not covered after the run around.
I drove the car for a solid day, and cluster was dead. turn signals worked, but realized turn signals still work they just dont play the noise on the cluster everyone expects.
Today, car woke up and sure enough the cluster was on, but then cut out. car was not stated at this point.
My plan is to remove the cluster and let it warm up to room temperature. Also, to keep driving the car.
If I need a new cluster: I see there are several for cheap. but the programming is a mystery to me.

Do not simply swap in another cluster. Read #6 and #8Originally Posted by e350forme

anything else to do after that is done besides throwing the new cluster with old PCB into my german chariot?
despite no responses, I will report that the cluster is back to life. I did pay the 200$ for mechanic to scan/diagnose but seems fair as it was not in my capacity to troubleshoot. The car was subjected to extreme cold temperatures. Seems to have come back to life. I will most likely have a spare on hand. aftermarket warranty essentially ignored me. I do have a check engine light, but first time I have seen the cluster light up and work. I dont have a mercedes scanner tool yet, but will try and see if ELM will clear the CEL

Was this car a CPO? Dead cluster in the cold seems to be a common problem on facelifted cars. Originally Posted by e350forme

nope, used car lot type of place. The warranty is through GWC.
Can you help answer a question for me? If I swap over PCB in future into a new cluster, what has to be done next to get it working?

I keep the car in garage in winter now, heated, the cluster does not go out
