SBC Brakes - Shutting off with diagnostic tool
Other than the Star diagnostics, is there a diagnostic tool that can shut off/turn on the SBC brake system on a Mercedes? Or am I stuck with the Star system or the crazy manual run around and spin the tires thing?

Foxwell NT520 can shut off SBC, and bleed the brakes, among many other things.

The less than $200 scanners that can service MB are coming on the market.
I like my iCarsoft MBII, but also Autotel and mentioned Foxwell.
Still if you don't mind laptop based one, I think MaxiEcu gives you the best value with lot of adaptations and traceable updates.

I just purchased a Foxwell AutoMaster Pro NT624 for $199 shipped. It worked fine to disable the SBC so I could do my rear brakes. Then activate the system when job was completed. Now I have a pretty good diagnostic tool for further uses. Hope this helps you

The other day wife complained of an intermittent rough idle in gear on the E320. The car drove perfectly fine except for the idle. I hooked up my $100 icarsoft MB2 (foxwell was in the other car), checked the ME2.8 but no codes were stored. Digging deeper into live data crank sensor, MAF sensor, throttle body, transmission all seemed to be working perfectly fine. I eventually got to live data -> engine smooth running submenu and found this.
In neutral all 6cyls displayed zero. In gear at idle cyl #4 would fluctuate between 3-20 while the other cyls stayed <1. I let the engine cool and swapped out the #4 coil pack and wires for one of the used spares I had in my parts stash. Took it for a test drive and all 6cyls stay <1 and the engine idles smooth again.
The MB2 can't deactivate SBC or actuate the air suspension or do any coding that's why I recommend the foxwell over icarsoft to w211 owners for not much more money. Even so it's still incredibly useful.
