Puddle lights

When I read that this feature was deleted on the new cars, I didn't give it much thought.

Today we had a heavy rain in the NY/NJ area. And I realized that our E39 BMW has puddle lights on the bottom of the door.

If your car is one without puddle lights, is it dark around the car when you step out?

Thanks,

David

There are two sets of lights on the current W211... the bottom of the doors, and the bottom of the mirrors. I suspect the ones at the bottoms of the mirrors were deleted, because the ones in the doors have been there a long time. Don't know for sure though.

Since the W211 has W203 part numbered mirrors, it would be easy to substitute mirrors without lights. If the ones in the door panels were deleted, the hole would have to be covered with the blank plastic plate found in some C-class cars.

I would have prefered to have the ones on the doors removed instead of the ones on the mirrors. The ones on the mirrors are nice when you unlock the doors at night to be able to see what you might step in before you open the door.

With my mirrors folded, they don't work too well... but I guess it's better to have both of them than missing one or the other.

I thought the US W211 mirrors didn't have a folded position. Do they fold?

The E39's do fold, by hand not power, but still folded. Useful in NY parking lots.

Can you clarify? When you say no mirror lights you mean no side view mirror lights at all? Even the ones that flash with your blinkers/hazards? or just no downward pointing lights that light the floor as you enter the car. I'm a little confused?

Thanks.

The under the mirror lights is one of the things that makes the car very cool in my opinion. I can see my way in and out of my garage side with those things.. I LOVE them...
