Power Steering woes
Power steering of my car used to work fine. Couple of years ago a mechanic while doing some work in engine bay broke the power steering reservoir. I recall that red fluid was all over the engine. They replaced the PS reservoir and put Febi (green fluid) in it which made the steering very stiff. I checked the Mercedes fluids site and asked the mechanic to put Pentosin CHF11S in it which made the steering slightly better but it was still stiff. I was told that I need to replace the PS pump. I continued to drive the car this way for over a year. We sourced a used pump last week and replaced it but it was very noisy so we put the old one back. They put ATF Dexron III fluid in it. The steering feels softer and better now.
I have been told that transmission oil is going to leak from steering rack, is there any truth in it and I am confused that PS pump is fine and i was putting the wrong fluid in it? The car had red fluid in it when I bought the car in 2015.
Thanks
