2007/2008-------->E350 or E550

Hi guys...

I get narrowed between the E350 or E550, i need to buy one of them, in the past i was lined to e350 as my choice to get, but in the few days i've drive a E550 and i was very impressive with its engine poweful, it makes a lot of sense to me and make me confused to own it or the e350 !!!

Could someone please tells me about the common problems of the e550 that most of people faced ?! May this and sure will help me take a good choice to going with.

Thx

The only real drawback on the E550 aside from the gas mileage is the airmatic. Those can fail in the 80k+ range. At the dealer, they're about $1000+ per corner so if you do all 4, it'd be about 4k. In additional to spring itself, there's additional items like the line and the compressor which could go bad. If you get an air leak, you go out to find your car sitting on the ground as it can't be aired up so you can't drive it. There are aftermarket parts like Arnott which are also lifetime warranty, but they're still $500 a corner. Other than that, about the same as an E350 except real leather is standard and they tend to have more options so they usually have things like cooled seats and rear climate control which you don't get on an E350.

If it's an 07, make sure you're not buying someone else's problem.

Arnott's can be purchased in the $300 ~ $400 range per corner. Have a local shop install it and you will have a car that rides unbelievably smooth on the road. Personally I would go with the E550 because I think the fuel cost difference will not be that much.

I would go e550 all the way. Personally I would search for an 09. Its not a matter of IF the airmatic goes out, but WHEN. Its probably the biggest draw back on them. I just got done replacing everything in the system (front struts, rear bags, compressor and relay) Its not a cheap issue but once fixed should last for years.

I've also done normal repairs (upper control arms, lower ball joints, front CV axles, inner and outer tie rod ends, motor and transmission mounts) And had to replace the heater control valve and the door handles (twice) for the keyless go/unlock.

But other than that, I've put 65k miles on mine (bought it with 65k, just crossed over 130k) and its been my favorite car to date!
