E500 4Matic clanking
Good evening all,
I’ve been a lurker for a while. I bought a 04 E500 4Matic about two years ago and have really enjoyed it...so much that I’ve put over 60k on it in 2 years. Bought it with 89k on the odo and it’s amount to roll 154k this week.
Earlier this month I had the transfer case fluid, transmission fluid, and rear diff fluid all changed, and a motor mount was replaced as it was blown out. I had that t-case growl at low speed going in and out of parking spots and driveways previously but it came back so I had it done again. I also had two rear tires put on it as they were pretty worn. The car was parked for almost a week after the tires were put on as I did not take the car on vacation with me. Fast forward to Saturday when I left for work. I was met with a clunking noise when accelerating over 15mph, when braking from any speed, and when crushing at 25-30mph. The clunk goes away when the car warms up after about 20 minutes of driving. I’ve searched the forums the last few days and I have completely come up empty handed. Any and all help would be appreciated. I have a good indy who takes good care of me.

I didn’t even think of that. I’ve had the tires replaced 2 at a time before and never had that issue until now. I have a appointment to get it checked on Tuesday of next week, I will mention that to the mechanics. Thanks!

I’m getting the new tires (on the rear) switched to the front tomorrow just to see if maybe that changes anything. The mechanic who normally works on my car is on vacation, I don’t trust anyone else to work on it any further than a oil change.
