Question Cost to replace front brake pads?

Recently had my rear pads replaced and was able to negotiate significant savings from my dealer’s normal cost when quoting another member's lower cost by producing a copy of their invoice. I’m respectfully asking any/all e320 members who had their front pads replaced to post your cost.

So no one has had to replace their front pads yet, is that what I’m getting?

How many miles on the car when the pads were required? Do you consider yourself a hard driver or easy?

I assume you're referring to the rear pads, 19500 miles.

Yikes indeed. That’s why I hunted for the cheapest price for the rear pads and why I now hunt for the cheapest price for the front pads. I might mention that I’m not ready for front pads yet but rather want to play it safe.

It's quite unusual for the rear pads to wear out quicker than the fronts. Maybe SBC has something to do with it? I wonder if the rear pads on SLs wear out faster than the fronts too?

I agree.... In every car I've ever owned (bikes too) I usually run through 2 sets of front brakes for every rear set.... SBC has to have something to do with is....

Done under warranty since my brakes were "squealing."

A certainly hope so because my wife and I are not hard on the brakes. You know it completely slipped my mind (what little there’s left) to ask if this was a common occurrence when I had the rear pads replaced. But don’t you think they would have mentioned if it was or wasn’t normal with SBC? I pause.

Most dealers I've been to for brake sevice informs me what percentage of brake pad is left on the ones they didn't replace.... Did they give you this info on the front pads???? If so, what is left???

Maybe you wore out the backs because you are driving in reverse a lot?

I can't wait to replace the crappy pad of my W211. It take about 50 miles before the rim go dark, they must have put coal on the brake pad or something. I only have 2.5K mile w/ my car though, guess I'm gona to pull trigger and go w/ pad that has less dirt.

Same problem used to happen to my W210, til I couldn't take it anymore and replace the OEM pad w/ PBR Deluxe. Now, I can go for month, and no dirt whatsoever on rim.

Anyone know any good quality pad for W211 ? No dirt please. Can I use the PBR Deluxe ? Or does the SBR require some special type of pad ?

I'm not ready for front pad replacement yet. They said the front pads were fine when they replaced the rear pads. No percentage given though. However I think the dash warns you when the pads need replacement.

As far as the rear pads, the warning symbol on the dash flashed once or twice in concert with service B then disappeared @ 12500 miles. The rear passenger brake started to squeak at this time. So when I had the car in the next time for bulletin upgrades I had them check the rear brakes for excessive squeaking on the passenger side. They said that the pads were approaching there wear limits @ 14500. I let it go until I returned at 19500 for an additional bulletin upgrade and replaced before actually getting any warning on the dash because I couldn’t take the squeaking. Physical inspection warranted replacement or so I was told. …Yes, the squeak is gone.

Unfortunatly softer materials for brake pads results in more brake dust, but by far better brake performace... I think I'll stick with the O.E.M pads and just have the ol'lady wash the car a little more often

God forbid my wife should brake, umm I mean break a nail! It is my understanding that dealers will not install aftermarket pads, true or false?

Probably depends on the dealer, but for the most part I would say they won't....
