FCPeuro sells that as a kit. The real kicker is the intake manifold which I believe affects both the V6/V8. The intake flaps get gummed up and parts break so you either need to fix the parts that break or replace the intake. If you just fix the broken parts, eventually the internal flaps will break off and possibly damage the engine so it's best to replace the intake if you're driving it for long. There's several youtube video on how it's done. That is somewhere in the 100-160k range. The other stuff like oil cooler leak, thermostat, pulleys/tensioner are pretty straightforward. The part for the intake is around $600.

It can be done in the car... sometimes if your mechanic has very small hands and knuckles of steel.

Ah, didn't know about the intake flaps. I don't believe the M112/M113 has that issue. Do M112's and M113's also have the issue with the rear cam seals as the M272 and M273?

I'm not sure that this has much to do with the OP's original question, though, of whether to go V6 or V8. Personally, I still think that the V6 is powerful enough. Anything bigger is basically for fun...not that fun is a bad reason to go V8, of course. :-)

M112/m113 variable intake is all metal and very reliable. There is no rear cam seals on the M112/m113. Only valve cover gaskets which leak after a while but are easy to replace.
