Angry Brake lights stay on even when car is off!

My 2006 e500 recently went crazy in the middle of the night parked in my driveway. I woke to the alarm going off, the trunk wide open and the lights out of whack inside and out. From our forum I was able to find six wires severed by the left trunk hinge. I soldered the wires back together and insulated them with electrical tape. While that fixed most things, what is crazy is that all 3 brake lights stay on even with the key out of the ignition. However, when I squeeze the trunk handle the brake lights turn off and my trunk interior lights turn on. As soon as I release the trunk handle, the brake lights come back on and the trunk interior lights turn off regardless if the trunk is opened or closed. The only way I have stopped the battery and bulbs from draining is by squishing balled up paper in the trunk handle keeping it depressed (like I am getting). I can’t find any other severed wires and I did remove the harness from the brake switch under the dash. Removing the harness from the switch had no effect. The only other symptom is the SOS system tries to initiate a call on its own randomly. Please HELP!!!

Should get it scanned for codes. But are you sure you connected the right wires when fixing the broken wires? There is a brake light switch and that also goes bad, maybe you haven't noticed til now.

Positive I connected all the wires correctly. Also I pulled out the brake switch and the lights still stayed on. If I get it scanned, does it have to be at a dealership or will a local auto parts store work? The parts store will not charge me to scan it. I am guessing the dealership will charge me.

I would replace the switch first. Getting it scanned might not yield any error messages. Parts store only does OBDII codes so you need a scanner that does MB specific codes. You could buy one for the next time it happens, they're in the $90-$150 range. Autel, icarsoft, are two that get mentioned a lot, but there are a lot out there.
