Is re-programming of transmission shifter module needed

Hi Guys, I just wanted to find out if re-programming of ECU/TCU is required if I were to swap out transmission shifter module ( part number 2112672224 ) my car is 2004 w211 e320 w/ 200200 miles. I had P0705 code.

Some information I found on the Internet mentioned that I need to swap out ECU/ ignition switch along w/ the transmission shifter module as a set. Or is it just a simple plug-n-play type of repair?

Any info. is appreciated.

Should have 722.6 transmission check for oil contamination @ transmission connector (see service campaign attachment) & control module, pilot bushing current part # 2035400253. If dry/clean you can move on to shifter (ESM).

As long as you match existing ESM part # normally plug & play if replacement is problematic you may need to erase stored fault codes using MB diagnostics. Shop compatible part #s used 2112672524 & 2112672224.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I will look at these two areas this labor day weekend before committing to change the shifter module.

A quick update, the passenger side ETU area is dry and clean as new. I proceeded to the electric connector next to the transmission pan, I unplugged the connector and noticed that there is some oil/tran fluid.

Could I change that automatic transmission plug adapter without having to drain the transmission fluid, or there will be a ton of fluid coming out of that plug adapter once it is removed?

fluid should not leak out. but as you see, it is known to get some seepage.
