Panorama Roof, Message "close sunroof" and Shades not closing

Panorama Roof, Message "close sunroof" and Shades not closing
2005 E320 CDI, with the Panorama Roof
Dash message tells me to close the sunroof, when turning off car and exiting.
As far as I can tell the roof is closed. Tried full opening and full closing the roof a number of times, but always the same message.
The roof seems fully closed, there is no height differential among any glass panels.
Also my front and rear roof shades are no longer closing either. They are stuck open. It can get mighty hot in there when there is bright sun.
I'm assuming both these conditions are related, but not sure where to start.
Looked at fuse list, but can't find anything for the roof shades.
I'm guessing there is a sensor to detect roof closed, perhaps this is not being made, and shades won't close because sensor is not made?
