Nav quit, now radio is also dead

On a recent trip, my nav quit - as I remember the message said DVD is not installed. I tried to remove and reinsert the DVD, but the eject button did not do anything.

I located the fuse #3 in the trunk, pulled it out, and it was fine. Reinserted it.

Now my radio is also dead - only the MBZ logo appears when I try to power it on.

Any ideas? Perhaps a power-off reset by pulling the fuse up front to the radio?

My guess is that you have some power issue or DVD drive issue. I would have checked the connection to the DVD drive. It's a somewhat standard DVD drive, some people have reported replacing it with a regular DVD and they got lucky and it worked. You could take it out and see if it still works or that it still has power. Normally when the wires in the trunk get cut near the left hinge, it doesn't affect the DVD drive but that's also a possibility if the drive isn't getting any power. Ultimately you need to get the car scanned to see exactly what error messages you're getting for which particular system. Otherwise I'd tackle the DVD drive first.

Check fuse #6 in the trunk. It is for Audio Gateway control unit. Sometimes that will blow a fuse.

Fiber Optic cable failed

Shop found that the fiber optic cable running from the dash to the amp and the navigation disc drive unit in the trunk's left fender failed due to a sharp edge where it ran under the rear seat..
We had weight on the rear seat all during our cross-country trip, but not as much as a passenger would be. Shouldn't have happened, IMO.

Fortunately he was able to splice the cable to eliminate the fault.

It was a major project to find the problem.
