Best tool to remove inner tie rod please help
Hi All,
I'm need to find the best tool to change my inner tie rod on my 2007 Mercedes e550 RWD. Can someone advise on the best tool to easily remove the inner tie rod? I have used locking pliers before but it is really sucks. Thank you!

I just did mine not long ago (2005 E320 CDI). Remove the boot and use an open ended wrench on each side. Costs and extra $20 for the boot from FCPEuro but worth it and makes quick work.

12" or 14" pipe wrench (or a 36 mm open-end wrench IIRC) and an open-end wrench (21mm? 22mm? 23mm?) for the steering rack. Just did both of my inner tie rods; took about 5 minutes each to remove and install. Could not get a torque wrench on them so used thread lock and my non-calibrated arms. 110 Nm.
Ensure you hold the steering rack shaft with the open-end wrench while removing/installing the inner tie rod; failure to do so can cause damage to the rack and pinion assembly.
While you are at it, order a new pair of boots for the inner tie rods and ensure they come with new clamps.

That's pretty much what I did before. I'm looking for the special inner tie rod tool. It allows you to use a socket to undo the inner tie rod, and then torque it to spec. There are a lot of these tools online, but there is only a handful that precisely fit the w211 if I recall correctly. One brand is harbor freight but not sure. Do you follow?

Usually most auto parts places like Autozone will let you rent the tool, and with Autozone the rental can be free. They just charge you the price of the tool and then when you return it, they give it back to you.

Did you ever find the right tool? I am looking for the same. I purchased the Maddox set. The crowfeet jump from 40 to 42 (my E550 takes a 41) but more critically the length of the tool is 20", when I have about 10" of clearance without removing the entire hub assembly.
