W211 wing mirror not folding

W211 wing mirror not folding
I hope this is a common fix but so far I can’t find anyone else who had a similar issue.
my car is set up to fold the mirrors in when she locks and open them out when opened up.
passenger side is working fine as ever. Driver side is not. The odd time it will fold but very rare.
im guessing that it is most likely a broken wire similar to the one which broke in the boot years ago and stopped that from opening up.
so. Does anyone have a guide as to how this might be fixed? Where might the wire be broken? And where might I find some info as to how to take the mirror apart without breaking it.
