I looked at roady2 and xm commander. I ended up with the commander because I would never use outside of car. As you know you have to use fm modulation which sounds ok not great. I've had it since fathers day and I like it but don't love it. My issue is sound quality. Commander is seamless and looks great in ashtray open or closed. My guy put antenna in rear shelf completely hidden and I only have rare drop outs. For $130 it was worth it since I only keep cars 2-3 yrs and I'm sure it will be standard in next. By the way xm blows away stadard radio but it's not the greates thing. I'm tending towards cd's and ipod now that novelty is over.

I have "OEM" Sirius Satellite in my '04 E5. Sound quality is terrific, just about CD quality. Antenna on trunk, only rare dropouts from heavy suburban overhead Oak trees or RR trestles. Have not tuned to AM or FM since it was installed. Done with CDs, except in rare nostalgic moments.
Satellite will do to FM, what FM did to AM. You are right, it will be in almost all cars by '06/'07.

I have had XM in my car for over a year now and have been quite satisfied with the sound quality (even though it is connected to the sound system via an FM modulator) and overall performance (eg, it is easy to reach to the ashtray and change stations, the antenna is totally unobstrusive, etc.). My unit is an Alpine, but I would guess that the the Roady or Commander, being newer, are as good or better. Never having had Sirius, I can't compare their programming with XM's, but I find XM great and a vast improvement over standard FM radio. I think it is clearly worth the money to get XM. I have no criticism of those who have paid more and, in some cases, had to overcome various obstacles to get Sirius, but I am personally not attracted to that approach.
