I found plenty of threads about this, but none specifically explaining how to access the bulb. I’ve got the compartment out of the car. I’ve spent a couple hours trying to separate the 12v socket from the compartment without getting anywhere. Is anyone aware of how to do this?
I was able to get the brown housing out and access the bulb. Now I’m left with figuring out how to reinstall the housing such that these 2 metal points on the brown housing make contact correctly. I’m not really sure how that goes.
I feel like it would be helpful if I could get the actual 12v adapter piece separated from the ashtray housing.
I’m starting to consider running separate power lines to this bulb, which I don’t really want to do.
I got it working. I bent the contact tabs down as much as possible to create tension when reinstalling. Still, once connected, if you jiggled the connector, they go out. I ended up putting a zip tie around the connector and plastic body to hold it tight. So far it’s working. We’ll see if it continues to work after driving it some.
I used an led bulb as I never want to remove that bulb again. I chewed up the housing pretty good taking it apart. Unlike other bulbs on this car, it doesn’t seem to have a negative impact on the bulb staying lit.
