Depends on the fuel available to you. Given the low sulphur (lubricity) content of USA fuel, I use additive on EVERY tank of fuel I put into my diesel truck and car.

220cdi never made it to America.
When diesel additives are not needed on regural basis, modern diesels tend to gum up intake more than the older ones.
Don't know if your engine has intake flaps, but those are maintenance items on engines above 100k miles.
Latest news say that BG and Liqui Molly makes "miracle in the bottle" who with special procedure can clean the gunk and at the time some stuff is advised inside the tank.
