No, the CD Changer is for CD's only. The difference between the original changer and the new one, is that the original is an Audio drive, while the new one is a Data drive. But no DVD drive

Powertrain - Specials

Maximum safety thanks to parameter steering

Speed-sensitive parameter steering from ThyssenKrupp Presta SteerTec makes for relaxed driving on long journeys and steep mountain roads while at the same time providing easy maneuvering in town.

Parameter steering with variable centering from ThyssenKrupp Presta SteerTec meets the highest safety and comfort requirements.

An electrical sensor continuously measures the car’s speed and controls a special valve which opens steplessly according to a specific characteristic depending on speed to release the required amount of oil to a hydraulic system which boosts steering feel.

Parameter steering has proved successful as an optional extra in various Mercedes-Benz models. True to the motto “only the best is good enough”, our developers have taken parameter steering to the next level of technical achievement – called parameter-setting with variable centering. The driver feels this in terms of a palpable gain in driving stability and safety. Unwanted steering movements are kept to a minimum while the vehicle remains firmly under control.

Was this an option installed when you got your car or aftermarket?

I thought the E-Class had a similar system in the car from the factory.

The guys called me after they installed the CD Changer and they couldn't get it to recognize my MP3 CD. They have the car until tomorrow and there are a few more CD's in the glove box.. Hopefully it will work.. At least they said it would.

Is it at the Lakeshore Benz or at the Dundas Benz?? I'll go over and kick some tires! :p

If it does not play mp3's then what is the use of it? You can burn 7 hours of uncompressed songs on a DVD or 50-60 hours of mp3's.

There is a computer store on Dundas just west of Dixie and you can buy writable DVD's for $35 per 100.

http://www.factorydirect.ca/static/index.htm

One more thing......

I don't know how familiar you are with making mp3's but you need to watch how far you are compressing them. If they are too compressed the head unit will not play them. I use Lame 3.96 and variable bit rate.

Angry

I got my car back.. They installed the "new" changer N/A part number 4060 and it does NOT play MP3's.

I am really kinda p'd off as the dealer had told me it would. Yeah Spartan I know how to make discs and encode them.. Thanks.
OSLO or anyone have any tips or know what part I rec'd?

The part # on my invoice is: 6-7-82-4060

When I called them I asked for 4061 and they said this was not available in North America and the part for us was 4060.

Anyways.. Any tips let me know.

I have the cd parts quote from the dealer and I will look at what number my Benz part guy quoted.

I was told by the technical representative of Mercedes Canada that they will HAVE that CD changer in a matter of a few weeks and that was back in mid May. I was also told by the parts guy that I TRUST at my Benz dealer to be careful that I get the correct changer because Mercedes will try to clear out ALL their old CD changers before they introduce the new one. He told me that he would phone me as soon as he gets it in. I have yet to receive a phone call.

It looks like they cleared one more old one....... :v

If it was me, I would not accept the CD changer if it did not play mp3's. The way I see it, they are telling you stories and selling what they want to clear out.

Further....

It makes absolutely no sense for them to have TWO different cd changers for two markets. NONE whatsoever. CD changers are OLD technology and no one even bothers to put one on the market if it can not play mp3's.

I will tie a pink ribbon in my hair in order to remind myself to bring the cd changer parts quote home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
BTW, I kept saying "Dundas" Mercedes and my wife just reminded me that there is NO freaken DUNDAS Mercedes in the west end for several years. There is one at Lakeshore and one at Queensway. Dammit, I got my locations mixed up. When I kept writing about the new Dundas Mercedes, I meant the new QUEENSWAY Mercedes. When you are saying Dundas Mercedes, NOW I KNOW that you mean the downtown one. I'm really sorry, I got my locations confused.
Anyway....I know my Lakeshore parts and service guys for about ten years and I trust those guys to do and tell me the right thing. Further, if you don't have any experience with the Downtown guys, then I recommend you take it to my local Lakeshore guys.
Again, my apologies for the confusion in my posts and pm's.
This is their Queensway location that I thought you were talking about:
MB Express Queensway, 1156 The Queensway, Etobicoke,
This is where I go:
Silver Arrow Motors West, 3120 Lake Shore Blvd. West, Etobicoke
Then make them take it out until the right one comes to Canada. Or at least until they sell out their OLD stock.
You got the standard changer. The correct one is 6-7-82-4059. Same happened to me the first time.
If I understand you correctly. The tunes are played in the same order as they are burned into the CD. Only the track name will be used, no ID tags.
The one they put in my car still does not work.. They called me and told me they spoke to Alpine (Why Alpine.. is that correct?) and that they ordered me the one that works and will install it when it arrives.
That was a couple weeks ago..
Alpine?? As far as I know, the player comes from Becker/Harmon Kardon. Could be that it's an Alpine drive, but I very much doubt that Alpine is allowed to deliver it outside the MB Network.
"The tunes are played in the same order as they are burned into the CD. Only the track name will be used, no ID tags."
On my Sept 1 2004, UK E, the track name is not displayed, merely track 1,2,3, etc.
As far as "order they are burned" - this does not make sense - you compile the whole thing in NERO or whatever and then press "go" - no order.....
Or am I missing something......
I always say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I don't know how this one will look as 'the boss' has just taken it in our garage, so the light is not to good.
Our one displays the name of the folder, and then the Artist and name of record.
Mind you whenever I save an Mp3 I always save it as: Artist name, song
i.e. John Wayne I'm Busted.mp3
Ah - that will be the difference between your command and my audio 20 plus mp3 changer..........
Sorry for the confusion.....
Still interested in the order of playback - going to try renaming a bunch of tracks to ascending numberics to see if that works....
But did you burn them alphabetically, and were your horses burnt medium rare??
Congratulations on the new car.
