El wire's life span is crap. It's about 2-3 years if that depending on if it's getting sun light hitting it. You are better off buying those fiber optic kits that have the drivers at the end and then lengths of fiber you can cut and attach. Looks better and will last a long time.
Or you could get diffused acrylic tubing and fab up your own stuff.
