I'm getting ready to replace these parts in my E550. Sources say to either remove by dropping the exhaust or loosening the alternator/AC. I'm going to do the exhaust route. What I want to know is what gaskets will need to be replaced once I begin reinstalling the exhaust. Thanks for the input.
Take a look before you decide to drop anything. Im not sure if the RWD model is different than the 4matic model, but I didnt have to drop the exhaust on mine. I was able to remove the splash shields in the wheel wells, as well as drop the under belly pans, then use a piece of wood and jack the engine up by the oil pan lip and remove the mount through each wheel well. One bolt on top, one on the bottom and it tips and pulls right out. Literally spent more time jacking up the car and putting it on jack stands than I did doing the motor mounts.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely see if it's possible to remove it without disconnecting the exhaust. But just in case, I'll probably still need a gasket.
I’m needing to do this as well. If RWD, it’s pretty easy. If 4matic, you remove the alternator to do passenger side, and drive axle to do driver side.
I’m fairly sure you’re better off removing the alternator than the exhaust manifold/down pipes. Especially if rust is a factor on all the manifold bolts. You could spend days just trying to extract broken studs/bolts.

I'll show tomorrow that nothing needs to be removed on a 4matic car... I plan to do mine tomorrow and I'll take a few pics.
And as promised. Here are a few pics. Your inner fender well liner won't be cut like mine is, obviously. At some point in this cars life someone did this for this very job I'm guessing. I need to get two new ones.
Anyways. Removed nothing from under the car. I did remove the airbox and piping to make room to get to the top mount bolts.
Which brand of mounts did you use? If other than oem, how have they held up?
Did you do the transmission mount at the same time?
I put Corteco mounts in the car when I bought it at 65k. They lasted until now (so roughly 80k miles). These are some that were on closeout at Rockauto. They all last roughly 60-80k.
I did the trans mount the first time. It's still good.

I'm getting my next set from FCPeuro. They say Lemforder is OEM. About $62.30 each. At least they'll have the lifetime warranty.
I remember they used to sell both but I guess if Lemforder is OEM I guess they're just selling both. Yeah, I had my first set got at about 60k and after another 50k I expect them to go again soon.

I really should spend the cash for the east coast euro mounts. One and done. They are amazing! Look them up of you haven't seen them.
for whatever reason it says those don’t fit my 07 e550. I went with the Corteco for just under $90 for both.
I noticed that they really dropped the price on them. I think I paid like 158.00 for the two Corteco mounts I bought from them some time ago. 90.00 for both mounts is a solid price.
As Rodney said, this couldn’t have been much easier. I did not remove the airbox or induction tubes. I did remove both front wheels, the front most fender liners, and the plastic shield covering the oil pan.
Took about two hours to do both sides and I wasn’t in a hurry. The driver side mount was leaking fluid and rotted. It came out in two pieces. The passenger side had no fluid, and the bottom portion was all just dust.
It’s unclear why I hadn’t noticed any significant issues these last couple years. No idle vibration or harsh shifts or anything.

Driver side. Passenger side.
Well I hope this goes as smoothly for me. However, mine isn't 4Matic. Hopefully, that won't make a difference. I bought the Lemforder Mounts including the trans mount for $127.00
@ParadiseLV Let me know how your E550 mounts go. I have a E550 2009 RWD, and I'm thinking of doing mine but am not sure if you need to remove the exhaust.
Thanks
I did my '07 e550 mounts two months ago. I thought about dropping the suspension crossmember but decided the exhaust was easier. Took about 10 minutes to drop on a two-post lift with two guys.
BTW I replaced with Corteco as well. My driver's side was just about like yours.
Hey guys
I have a 2009 E550 RWD, and when I looked down from the engine, my engine has this metal shield whereas @rodneypierce doesn't. How'd you remove the shield as I don't see any bolts around it?

However I saw in WIS, that it doesn't mention about how to jack up the engine. How did you guys jack up your engine for your E550 RWD or 4Matic? Mine is RWD
WIS just mentions to jack up engine after removing the 13mm lower engine mount bolts......... however shouldn't there be more to remove? I've never raised my engine or done engine mounts before.
After some research, others have jacked up their engine after removing steering linkage or steering rack, etc. What did you do to jack up the engine? I don't want to damage anything and I feel the WIS is missing something....

Thank you so much for your comments!
Look at my pictures above. You can see exactly where I placed a chunk of wood to jack the engine up with. It's clear in the pictures.
