The CDI badge isn't the problem. The Arizona plates are the problem.

The best stuff to remove tape & glue residue that is SAFE is: VM&P Naphtha. Get it at a paint store. It is an excellent bug & tar remover also & is safe on paint. Also it is a wonderfull dry cleaning spot remover on your light colored carpets. NOT FOR USE ON LEATHER.

Debadged

OK, I am debadged. Now I just have to paint over those Arizona plates so that DWP doesn't arrest me when I drive through Sacramento on my way to AZ.

By the way, there is a black 2005 E320 CDI for sale in Fremont for $57,995 with 8500 miles on it, which is another perfectly legal way to have a diesel in CA.

Wow, 8,500 miles in TWO months? Sheesh.....is it a taxi?

I don't understand the logic of buying a used car for almost the same amount of money as a new car. Might as well buy NEW! Unless of course their are other "circumstances".

Other circumstances

The other circumstances driving the price of the used diesel for sale at a dealership in CA is the fact that the diesel cannot be sold here in CA unless it is used with a minimum of 7500 miles. This is one of a very few cars being sold in the state and that is the reason for the high price. I think it should go fast.

Explain to me why Chevy and Ford and Dodge can sell diesels in their pick ups here in CA? I know, all the working people need their diesel pick ups, but since half of all vehicles sold in the US are pick ups, what logic is there in this rule?

They are legally classified as trucks and are therefore exempt from the rules for cars.

Thank you

No one has ever complimented my bladders before. I should add that I am only 5 feet five inches tall, so the feat is even more impressive. While I stood in front of the urinal in the service station where I stopped, three other guys peed and left, one after another, before I was finished. Should I call Guiness Book?

Note that the reason they do not allow diesel cars to be sold in CA is supposedly because of the particulates in the exhaust. Don't diesel trucks have particulates too?

I was just at the Fremont dealership yesterday. That diesel is allready sold. The salesman told me they get it from the factory with the mileage on it so they can sell it in California.

why not switch the temporary plastic Arizona dealership plates with dealership plates from a California dealership? And then just leave those on until the car hits 7500 miles? i.e. just put on the temporary plastic plates from Smythe European (or from the CA dealer you bought your CL from). Everyone, including the CHP, will just assume you bought a new, debaged California E-class.

I am kidding

We let people without CA plates drive around our nice state, I don't need to paint over my plates. Some earlier posts from DWP who lives in Sacramento (the state capital) were more ominous. Outside of Arnold's influence, we are a more merry bunch, particularly in the Napa Valley with all our fine wine.

Which makes me wonder if it was a well thrashed demo.

Before I received my car, I tried one of the Dealer demo's. Everyone was raving about the acceleration and how it beat a E500 off the start line.

So much for that cars break in period.....

"Ominous"? Moi? I don't personally care if somebody has plates from Bosnia-Herzegovina on their car. I'm not the out-of-state-plate-police. I was just pointing out that there is a downside risk (involving online rat-out-your-neighbor sites and large penalties for non-registration) in having your car registered in another state if you're a California resident. Whether the risk is acceptable is not for me to say, since I'm not in that situation.

Incidentally, the California regulation that allows registration of diesel passenger cars that have 7,500 miles on the odo is at Title 13 CCR § 2164.
