Transfer Case Noise E350 4matic
Hi fellow Mercedes Benz enthusiasts!
I have a 2007 E350 4matic that is making a very noticeable "knocking" "ticking" noise that only occurs when accelerating. It "knocks" faster in pace the harder you accelerate.
In an attempt to find where the sound is coming from, I had the car up on a lift and listened for the sound as someone was stepping on the gas (again, it only makes the noise when accelerating). With a Stethoscope, I was able to pinpoint the sound coming from transfer case.
Replacing the transfer case for my car is a very expensive repair and aside from the noise, the car is running perfectly fine. It would be great if there was anything else I could do to remedy this issue. (Transfer case fluid change, replace bearing)
Has anyone here ever experienced this or does anyone know what this "clicking" "tapping" noise may be? I am thankful for any insight on this matter.

UPDATE
I had a Benz technician perform a transmission service (fluid, filter, gasket). He also changed the transfer case fluid. The "knocking" "ticking" noise in the transfer case is now significantly less and not noticeable like before. I am satisfied with the improvement.
Transfer case service $200
Transmission Service $340
