06 E320 CDI - Performance/Comfort switching system issues

Hi there ...

I have a 06 E320 CDI *without* the airmatic suspension. There is a strange issue with the ride control system (switching between performance and comfort via the switch by the shifter) of late. When I start the car, there is a distinct and constant vibration throughout the vehicle and through the steering wheel. If I change the ride control settings while at idle/stand still, the vibration will change frequency ... which is what leads me to believe it is an issue with said system. Furthermore, after driving the car for about 30 minutes, the vibration will disappear completely. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced such an issue and/or can suggest parts I might research and replace in order to rectify this issue. Thanks in advance for any information.

Joel

By "ride control" do you mean the transmission s/c switch by the shifter? Pushing the button will cause the transmission to be in 1st gear (sport) or 2nd gear (comfort/winter) at a stop.
Sounds like you've got motor/transmission mounts on the way out.

Yes ... that's exactly what I mean ... and thanks for the input; what I'm curious about is why the vibration would disappear after about 30 minutes or so of driving? Will check the mounts. Thanks again!

My car when cold has a harsh sudden shift from a dead stop between 1st & 2nd gear in S mode but all shifting becomes butter smooth once fluid temperature reaches 90 C. Vibrations might be located below shift knob perhaps driveshaft coupler at transmission end is starting to flex & come apart or might be coming from a worn driveshaft center bearing housing. Seems like either one of those would continue to vibrate regardless of temperature though but increase or decrease with shaft RPMs & loads.

i had the exact same problem when one of my engine mounts was on its way out. I’d guess that as the engine and mount heats up it kind of softens up a bit. I have no real evidence of this, just my armchair theory lol. I definitely noticed things smoothing out as things warmed up, can’t help but think it may be temperature related.
