Parameter Steering
Is this standard in the Canadian 2004 version of the E500?
Anyone know how you can tell if you have this in your car?

2) You check your v-card and if it has option code 213, you have "parameter steering" (what a lame name... I think all US-spec cars have this.)

Umm, if you look at the Mercedes-Benz Canada web site, you can find parameter steering listed in the "standard features" of the E500. That's 2005, so it is probably for 2004 too. Did you check the specs for older cars? It would probably be under "preowned".
Or have you driven the car to see if it has it?

From Manufacturer: ThyssenKrupp Presta SteerTec GmbH
Maximum safety thanks to parameter steering
Speed-sensitive parameter steering from ThyssenKrupp Presta SteerTec makes for relaxed driving on long journeys and steep mountain roads while at the same time providing easy maneuvering in town.
Parameter steering with variable centering from ThyssenKrupp Presta SteerTec meets the highest safety and comfort requirements.
An electrical sensor continuously measures the car’s speed and controls a special valve which opens steplessly according to a specific characteristic depending on speed to release the required amount of oil to a hydraulic system which boosts steering feel.
Parameter steering has proved successful as an optional extra in various Mercedes-Benz models. True to the motto “only the best is good enough”, our developers have taken parameter steering to the next level of technical achievement – called parameter-setting with variable centering. The driver feels this in terms of a palpable gain in driving stability and safety. Unwanted steering movements are kept to a minimum while the vehicle remains firmly under control.

I own a 2004 E500 and it is listed as a feature of the 2005 and not for the 2004.
They are playing games on the site as they list several features in the 2005 list that are not in the 2004 list when I know they are included - for example the First Aid Kit is listed as a feature in 2005 and not 2004..
I have a the first aid kit in my 2004.

Parameter steering was also available on the 210 E-class it certainly is not a new option.

Defined
It seems to me to be simply "variable assist, speed sensitive steering" they may be touting it, but its an old concept... I wouldn't be surprised to find out that its only being touted in certain markets as an "extra" while in other markets its simply just in there. People in different markets respond differently to different advertising "puffery".

I guess it does.. I really don't know. The cars I have driven seem so have it since the 80's - Volvo's in particular..
The reason I had asked is Merc list this as a feature in the 2005 and I wanted to know if they had this in the 2004 as this is NOT listed as a feature when doing a side by side comparison..
When I am on the highway and in a corner it is incredibly hard to turn the wheel, so I guess I have it.. (I guess). I will check the code on my sheet to see if it has it.

Yes you can easily tell. However here in the UK it is standard on the 320, 320CDI and above. (500 & E55AMG)
