03 E55 AMG Command Questions
Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a 2003 E55 AMG and was looking to get some insight into replacing the command unit ( HK logos on Speakers and Logic 7 settings in command)
The problem im having are as follows:
- Command will not shut off with ignition or when car is locked
- Cant set time in command - says to turn on ignition
- Instrument Cluster shows ---- for Audio, Nav and Tel
- in dash 6 disc changer will not open, though the cds inside are being read and work
I have tried disconnecting the battery, taking the fuses out but nothing has worked so far.
I am looking to replace the command unit with a more modern system, specifically one with Apple Car Play, what I am trying to achieve:
- Bluetooth Audio Streaming from an Idevice
- Be able to take calls
- navigation from phone on the HU
- Keep majority of the system stock (keep HK AMP and Speakers)
- Working Steering wheel controls
- Working instrument cluster display for AUDIO, NAV, & TEL, if possible
My questions are as follows:
1) I can see a lot of people have used the aftermarket android systems, while keeping the stock amp. How is the sound quality with this setup ? what happens to the logic 7 settings?
2) If I replace the command unit with say a pioneer system, what interfaces would I need other then the MOST fiber optic interface & Steering wheel control interface to use the factory amp? also can I remove the cd changer and the navigation unit, as they will be useless, using fiber optic loops to terminate?
3) When using the android units, the audio display in the instrument cluster works to show the channel or audio, would this still work with the pioneer system? how about Nav and Tel option in the instrument cluster, not sure if these work with the android units or not.
4) over all sound quality with aftermarket head unit while maintaining the stock HK AMP and speakers ?
* Pioneer Head unit is an example, I haven't decided on which head unit I will be going forward with.
** Will probably be doing the install myself.
*** recent convert from BMW to Benz, learning as I go
