sl and M-class E320 4Matic SLK350
On the 320E I picked up on European delivery at the beginning of this year it arrived at the port (after going through a prior port and VPC) with the European license plate still on it ( I had removed one in Europe). Had to let the dealer know I wanted to keep it though as they took it off during dealer prep and would have tossed it.

Then we walked a short distance through the C-class final assembly line. It was very impressive. All I could think of, however, was getting back to the customer center to take posession of my new car!

That occurred at 11:00. Recipients stand in front of large plate glass windows looking for their car in the room on the other side like an expectant father. A technician calls your name, and you are escorted to your car. Mine looked perfect. The tech spent a lot of time with me, ....
I have not done European delivery with Mercedes. However, I have done it with SAAB. The SAAB experience is different.

1. A contracted taxi driver meets you at Gothenburg airport. He drives you approximately 60 miles to Trollhattan. There you stay, free of charge, at the best hotel in the area (which isn't that plush). Actress Nicole Kidman stayed at that hotel for 2 months while making a film. A fancy dinner is offered at the restaurant compliments of SAAB.

2. The next morning, a contracted taxi driver meets you. For me, it was 10:15. A factory tour was fom 10:30 to about 11:30. Afterwards, one of the 2 European delivery reps meet you and takes you to the dealership, which is about a mile away. There he brings you to a special room, lifts the cover off your car, and explains features of the car (mostly the computer). He spent about 30 minutes but that's only because I kept telling him that I knew about such and such. He said that it usually takes more than an hour. Then you drive off. You can see the SAAB car museum if you wish.

This is much more personalized and more efficient a delivery than Mercedes. Of course, it looks like Mercedes is capable of handling boat loads of people. Both of these cars have been reliable for me so far.
