ED Tire Problem...Anyone Have A Solution?
New problem, as if the broken SRS sensor and drivers seat bladders weren't enough.
Flat tire. In the middle of nowhere...between Salzburg and Munich, near Chimsee. First, the tire, a small 225 doesn't allow the tray back in and the floor is no longer flush. Definitely not cool with a full trunk of luggage.
Now the real problem. There are virtually no H-rated E-class tires in Germany. The 225-55-16 is a Conti Premium Contact, V-rated. And the tires are 220EUR, 330EUR installed!
Does anyone have a solution? We will call MB Delivery Center in the morning.#
Thanks,
David

Going down the Autobahn, I think I'd stick with at least a V rated tire.
Looking at the tirerack website, V are good up to 149mph, but I'm not sure what H is rated at.

As for the 330 euros, man that's some serious change for just 1 tire.

"H" tires are rated for 130 mph which, by remarkable coincidence, is the electronically-limited top speed of US W211s factory-equipped with H-rated tires. Doubt that the dealer will raise your speed ration to 149 mph if you drive in and show 'em your new V-rated tires, though.

An update:
1. MB does not cover tires in the ED insurance. It is an explicit line item in the policy.
2. Harms accepted the car on the spare without a problem.
Now we will see how it turns out with MBUSA.
