flat hood emblem

Anyone know where to get this? I've done a search and I've found performanceproducts.com, formymercedes.com, and dealerships. Anywhere else good? Are the products the same at both websites, or is the formymercedes part not OEM (I believe the performanceproducts one is)?

Thanks in advance.

They look to me to be the exact same - I ordered the Performance Products one and never got around to installing - then couldn't find it. Re-ordered from formymercedes.com and installed (along with the CL grille), then, of course, found the the other one (already gave away to a buddy who loved it when he saw mine!). Couldn't see any difference.

When you install the flat badge, you might want to tie a string through the hole of the bracket that goes under the hood as you try to line it up with the badge's bolt. The bolt on the badge is actually a bit too short for the W211, or the bracket is shaped wrong, and so it's easy to lose the bracket between the layers of metal that make up the front of the W211 hood, never to be seen again. I ended up improvising my own bracket with some bar stock I had in the garage.

Why take off the star in the first place?

Just a matter of personal taste. I thought that the upright (or slightly slanted) gunsight sticking up from the hood was at odds with the hunkered-down, sleek styling of the car. I also found the gunsight a visual distraction while driving. I can understand how some people might consider the gunsight (and the tristar emblem on the trunk) the best part of the car, so I'm not dissing people who do. Everyone should do at least one nonfunctional mod to their car; the flat badge is a lot cheaper than wheels or body kits.

The emblem I got from formymercedes is OEM...it was in Mercedes bag and there was an MB part number on the back of the badge. The clamp assembly was in a separate bag and looks like it came from somewhere else.

I hear you. Those wheels and body kits and lowering jobs drive me nuts. Oh well, to each his own. Enjoy your ride!

Whichever one is available (1 of 5)
I got both the CL grill and flat emblem from formymercedes.com. I installed with no problem. I put some clear silicone under the emblem to seal from water. Everyone saw my car has given me excellent comments.

The car will be parked in the Bronx. If it's not taken off by me, it'll be taken off by someone else.

One more thing -- how easy is this install? Is the fit perfect? My dad says he went to the dealership and the pieces they showed him wouldn't fit without drilling holes or something like that. Is this true or were the salesmen talking rubbish?

(Ordered from formymercedes for a 2003 C240 4matic.)

Took me 10 to 15mins to swap mine. No drilling whatsoever. I also sandwiched a piece of rubber between the emblem and hood to prevent any scratches.

It's very easy! I'm extremely non-mechanical and both the emblem and the CL grille went in with no problem - total time for both about 20-25 minutes. Jerry at formymercedes.com was great to deal with too!
