Automatic Climate Control Hot - Cold - Hot

Searched around, lots of HVAC related posts. My E55 this winter has been exhibiting a symptom where the heat blasts quite hot, then it blasts cool, then hot, then cool. This seems to be a newer symptom, but hard to really say.

I read somewhere that this could be the interior temperature sensor, of which there is one near the ignition key, and frequently reference is one at the top dome. I tried the tissue test up around there but nothing stuck, but the ignition grille did hold the tissue. With the automatic systems taking all this input, not sure if anyone has had these exact symptoms in the winter. I can probably pop out that sensor to clean, but any other rundown of diagnostics I should look for?

Anyone have the part numbers for the sensor on the top dome? If that is indeed the issue.

Always start by asking yourself 3 questions: what is my year, mileage, and common wear-out parts that can be attributed to this problem. So, thermostat, then heater control valve. Not likely to be an electric component when a mechanical component with a life span can go first.

Well I found the sensor up top was broken. The thermistor wire broke. Will solder on a 10k ohm thermistor this week.

So, how did you diagnose the source of the problem? Did you put the computer into the OBDII?

Built in hidden menu said 0 degrees. Then the actual sensor wire is just broken.

Follow up here. This was the bare wire broken inside the N70 housing. I bought a 10k Ω thermistor and soldered it on.

Finished product. No more 0 reading , but temperatures were above 50 today so I think the dash sensor is used. Used https://www.benzworld.org/threads/ov...#post-13910849 as a template.
