E 320, 2004 (w211)

Hi There,
I have a E 320 (W211) 2004 V6 Petrol. Just bought it 8 weeks ago, in a fair condition with 120k miles on it. everything was ok until last week. Suddenly, right after driving say 15 to 20 minutes, (usually in low speed, say 15-20 miles/h, in a heavy traffic), the car suddenly turns off, without any warning. Just turns off!!, so, it is a matter to turn it on again, and then drives well for the next hour or so. Then the next day, same thing, driving for 20 minutes, and out from nothing, in a simple traffic light or just about to make a U turn, it just simple turns off, dash works, no funny noises, no previous loose of power or throttle, it just get "disconnected", then I turn back and forward the key and turns on perfect and drives fine again. I did a scanning in a shop with the STAR software and no code related! The only "other" thing noted (related or not) , is that engine temperature feels above regular temp, it feels kind of "overheated", going over 90 degrees and even up to 100.
adotomov is offline Report Post Very strange. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Oil pump?, SAM? Fuse?

I believe this might be the CPS. Crankshaft position sensor. Common failure point. Sensor is not expensive and easy to fix IF you have skinny and long arms. You can probably find a replacement part at your local auto parts store.

Thanks Mate. Is there a way to diagnose? I mean, got a basic STAR diagnose/scan and no code related showed up.

There probably is a way to get the reading from the sensor when the engine is running, perhaps through a car scanner tool.

But maybe you can measure the resistance of the sensor and compare that to the new sensor? If you are handy with tools, it is possible that you can put the new sensor in and start the car. It is so inexpensive, I just replaced it when the car was over 100k miles.
