The mats I got on my euro delivery E320 also have the flap over the dead petal. They look exactly like the one in the above photo. I'm glad I brought them home with me.

Glojo's post has all the cut outs in the right place for the gas pedal on the right forward part of the mat & the dead pedal on the left forward part of the mat. If that mat were from the right front footwell, there wouldn't be a dead pedal against the transmission hump world there? Also there would be a dark rectangular heel scuff pad in the mat for the gas/brake pedal shoe's heel to dig into. That looks like a "passenger's" side mat to me because it is without the scuff pad, and it IS cut for the LEFT side of the car which would be England's passenger side.

If the car has a world universal floor pan, it would have an unnecessary dead pedal moulded into it, which would be needed to cover.

We here in the USA need to cover it also because IT IS a dead pedal.

Dude, is that your LEFT FRONT MAT?

Man, my brain hurts!

Glojo's mat is from the right (UK driver's side). The dead pedal is against the tranny tunnel here (our left) and I assume it is against the inner fender for you (your left?)

Yup. It is. How come no colored heel pad on it? Why then did they give you a dead pedal on our side too? It wouldn't be nedessary. We dont have a dead pedal on the right side of our tranny tunnel because we don't need it either.

Don't know about heel pad but it would have been useful.

The dead pedal is on the same side because the pedal sequence in a Right/Left hand drive vehicle is identical. Ie in both set ups you depress the gas pedal with your right foot. The dead pedal is to replace the clutch pedal which you would normally operate with your left foot as it is on the left hand side.

yep that's the right sticker, I saw a E320 CDI on ebay with a build date 7/04 with the new style center console, and I've also seen other E's with a 7/04 build date with the old style console, must have been a mid-July update...

:v Shame on you for even suggesting such a thing. I can assure EVERYONE that the mat is taken from THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE RIGHT HAND DRIVE S211. I would NEVER attempt to mislead ANYONE.

We got these carpets with the vehicle and the mats are the standard optional items that can be purchased at any Mercedes-Benz UK dealer. We have purchased the heavier duty black rubber mats for both front footwells, and I am sure that the 'thingy' is also there on the ruber mat. (wife is out in the car at present) No doubt praying for Oslo's forgiveness. :v

some W211 cars are build in Austria, just check the VIN
eg WDB-------5A------
5 indicates MY05
A - Sindelfingen
F - Bremen
X - Graz = Austria
Z - special early pre production car.

If MB changed the center storage door for phone - maybe they had quality problem with other design, who knows

Thanks very much. that is certainly something I was not aware of. Did your colleague check to see if he had the nano pint technology?

As once again I thought that it was only available on German produced vehicles!!!!

Where on earth did I get all this duff information?????

And did you know????
E class assembled in India are actually painted at the Tata plant.

John

I think he did. Not certain though. I don't remember actually looking at the paint code and he has since sold the car. ...Not because of problems I might add.

The floor mats with the dead pedal cover come in the US on designo and AMG W211s, and in the EU on everything. They should be orderable in the US. Or maybe Steve...

Actually, I'm thinking... Whats the difference between looking at the dirty carpet covering my dead pedal, or looking at dirty carpet on my dead pedal flap covering the dead pedal? The view is the same. I'm gonna look for a piece of matching stair tread, floor tile, or something to velcro over that area that just wont stain.

The question is do I want to match the light carpet or go for black, like our heel pads...

Mine has a production date of 7/04 as well in Sindelfingen and old style lid. If memory serves, my car was actually built near 2nd week of July when they were having the walk-out strikes which really made my day.

I know the feeling. We have the heavy duty rubber mats that I believe also has your 'dead' thingie. The rubber mats are far easier to clean.

My "beef" with rubber mats has always been that when you get in with a shoe full of wet heavy snow, the snow melts & the water runs across the rubber mat to the lowest part of the floor mat & pools there, where it will roll off the mat onto the real carpet due to the movement & right turns of the car.

In my old cars with rubber mats that always left a stain on the floor just aft of the left rear part of the floor mat, near the door. At least the carped mats absorb the melting snow & keep the carpeted floor spotless.

I guess I could make no turns!

I agree. I have been looking for some nice winter mats that have raised edges that will retain the water within the rubber mat. I have some nice ones for my GMC Jimmy, and my wife's MDX has some nice ones, but I can't seem to find any for the E-class.
