Wheel bearings going loose

Hey,
Week ago changed all my bearings with races. Adjusted them "old school way" without dial indicator. Tight ,roll to make it seat, lower it all the way and then tight to loose and then fit/adjust /remove/fit/ wheel... till my bearing was as loose as possible, but without any play and then turned millimetre more tight.
Anyways, i drove for a week and then i wanted to check them.
Both wheel bearings had a play when i "rocked" the wheel with hands on 12 o´clock and 6 o´clock. But not when 3 and 9 o´clock. Anyone can tell me why is that?
So i redo´d all the same process what i did when i originally adjusted them, so no play at the moment.
Will see check again after few days,
Any ideas why is it so?

You said "lower all the way" meaning what? Lower the car? The front bearings adjusted without tech is with the car up, wheel off. Hand tighten the hub-bearing assembly wiith a wrench until it no longer spins, then back the nut off. Repeat several times. Then hand tighten, meaning with your hand, no wrench, until the assemble no longer spins freely. Then back it off 1/4 to 1/2 turn until it spins freely. Do this several times. Be sure the hub spins freely without any play. Back off the nut 1/4 turn then tighten the set screw.

Well yea i dont know either what i meant by "lower it all the way" just saw it now... , i think somekind of autocorrect but yea.
Basically did what you just told me, without ever touching the wrench,
So long story short. I got it to as little tight as possible without any play what so ever. Installed the wheel and still no play, until week later.

Okai so update,
checked bearings again, there was some play again, so i finger tightened them again as much i had force in my fingers. Wheel runs smooth, but even now i still have play, eventho its tightened as much as i could with my fingers.
Anyone had similar issue?

Shot in the dark...did you lock the nut by tightening the hex?

no play at 3/9 but play at 6/12 says upper/lower ball joints to me. Have someone watch closely at the suspension while you're trying to make the play happen.

To confirm whether it's bearing or suspension, get someone to press the brake pedal while you manipulate the wheel. If the the play is still present, there's something in the suspension.

Upper ball joint is easy to replace. Lower ball joint, that is a job.
