Planned purchase now for real

Greetings again. Last week I was asking for purchase advice. This week I'm happy to report that as of last night, I'm driving my new 2005 E320. I did go and drive the 530i again, but it just didn't do it for me. Oh, and for those of you who encouraged me to go with the E500....Yes, I did drive it and gave it serious consideration but ultimately decided that there were other options more important to me than the extra power. This car is pretty much loaded with premium package, appearance package, Keyless Go, and a couple of other things...but I think I got a very good deal on it. Much better than I would have expected for a early 2005. I set out to get pewter/charcoal but ended up with Brilliant Silver/Charcoal, which I'm quite pleased with now. I haven't had a chance to take any pics, but you all know what it looks like any way, right??

You've got some options in your car that I consider to be important in a luxury car. Nobody can say "the sky's the limit" on what we can spend on a car. What you have is a great car! Enjoy every minute of it- you will love it... and wait 'till you see how much help & info is on this Forum. Don't forget to add your City/State/Country to your signature because the cars are built to different standards, with some very subtle differences for each market in which they are sold, and you want to be sure you are getting the right info from guys around the world who post here. Drive On !

Excluding styling and the tacky dash of the 530I, how would you compare it to the E320 in terms of handling, braking and performance?

I bought an E320 too (my third Mercedes) and took it on a very long trip. It was a very relaxing experience and the car ran perfectly.

BTW, congratulations!

Did you buy the car locally and, if so, from M-BoS or M-BoEDH? We bought from the latter (when they were under common ownership) but have the car serviced at the former.

Enjoy the car. We very seldom use the additional power of our E500 because it's almost impossible to do so (legally) in town. Meanwhile, it sucks up more 91-octane whether we use the additional power or not.

For a sedan, I think you probably can't beat the braking and handling of the BMW. There was a time when I was a whole lot younger (I've owned two Porsches way back when) that handling was the most important factor, but now days the difference the 530 and the E handling is simply not significant enough to me (especially with the adjustable sport supension on the E) to over come the other BMW negatives, like the unappealing interior, the emergency break still on the center console (reminding me of a VW) the fact that the BMW seats and headrest are simply not comfortable for me, and finally...that I didn't feel there was anything "special" about the car. Just my personal reactions FWIW.

Yes, from M-BoEDH's, which was a new and relatively pleasant experience....also a great location for test driving a car because of the proximity of the freeway with a significant uphill climb, as well as winding country roads. I'm sure I will be taking it to M-BoS for service though. Has it been your experience that they treat you any differently for having bought the car elsewhere?

Thanks. So far I'm really loving the car! And I do plan to skim through older posts on this forum to pick up as much information as I can. Because of recent discussions I'd read on this forum I knew to be on the lookout for the new center console, and noticed that of the 7 or 8 E's that I saw on the lot, two of them had it. (Mine doesn't.) btw...I noticed today that "Avant Garde Package" is listed on the window sticker as part of the Appearance Package. Does anyone know what that refers to?

Yup..

The Appearance package is part of the Avantgarde European option

If you log onto http://www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/pc/index.html

Good luck with your car.

M-B of El Dorado Hills is unusual among M-B dealers in having some real country roads close by ... we took our test drive down Latrobe Road for a few miles; it's not often that you can turn left out of a M-B dealership and be on a winding, low-traffic country road almost immediately. My wife takes the car in for service (it's her daily ride) and she hasn't noticed any difference in the quality of the service at M-B of Sacramento since they split off from M-BoEDH. It's still good, although we haven't had any serious problems to put them to the test. Taking the car to M-BoEDH for service is a nonstarter because we live near downtown.
