Off Topic-ish Removed Front Plate..Now have scuffs!

stupidly forgot to tell the dealer to omit the license plate/bracket and now I have two screw holes in my bumper ...that I can deal with but the worse part is that they used screws that were too long to mount the plate to the holder..thus penetrating through to my bumper leaving scuff marks! Are there any suggestions as to fill up these scuffs marks with a clay or compound and then touch up paint? Please help!

I did that to my E too, just go to the dealer, they'll recommend you buy some little plugs, you put em in there, and put the touch up paint on, and it looks perfect.

A body shop can repair & paint the bumper cover so that there will be no scars.

Off-topic-ish but I too can relate. I bought my car after they had already attached the front license plate frame. I will take a look at the plugs, but I plan on having the bumper patched up. I just bought a 2005 C-class Sedan. I hope to graduate to an E-Class when I grow up . Cheers all.

Don't worry about the minor scuff marks... You will soon have many paint (stone) chips that will hide the scratches...

Bought a pre-owned 04 and the dealer had already removed the front plate, filled the holes and painted the area on the front bumper. You can't tell there was ever a plate on the car. I'd go this route if the plugs don't cover your needs.

Im probably going to go the dealer route. I took my front plate frame off and there are a total of (6) holes. (4) to mount the bracket, which I can understand since I do live in California. The thing that upsets me is there are (2) practice holes, which go nowhere. Even with the (6) small holes, it still looks better without the plate.

Sorry to hear about the 'chips' on your paintwork. Did you own a previous model Merc(K)edes-Benz and if so were the marks as bad?

Many of us have noticed what a great improvement the new paint technology gives in protecting the bodywork. Do you perhaps live in an area where your vehicle is exposed to this type of damage?

Take care on your 'two wheeled' automoble,
John

This is my first Mercedes and I'm not that impressed with this "nano" paint... Yes it does shine alot more than other paints on previous cars I've owned, but the paint chips are terrible. I'm getting them not only in the front but also on the flaired front portion on the front fenders and top of hood of all places... I've owned other euro cars before (Volvo) and I know about the ****ty waterbased paints most all auto makers are using, but this is rediculious... We drove the Volvo on the same roads for 7 years 100,000 miles and I think I've got more paints chips on the "benz" now.... If this is a great improvement over the previous generation of paint then their paint work really blows.... I drive ural roads. but they don't seem to be any worse than any others here in cali...

By crikey, sorry to hear about your paintwork. Your right to mention it, and yes, this new paintwork is far superrior to the finish on our previous 210. I wonder how many other owners are having a similar experience.

John

I think its chip resistance is exceptional. Are you sure you car has the nano clear coat paint?

You can always go with a clear bra (i.e. stonegard, x-pel, invincishield, etc.) to protect your car.

I had it installed within a month of purchasing my E320 - 14 months and 15,000 miles later I have but one small chip on the pillar next to the front windshield and no damage whatsoever to areas of the car covered with the 3M Scotchcal. I was somewhat skeptical about putting anything on top of the sheet metal at first, but I am now a believer in this product. I would recommend that you have the product installed by an experienced professional - preferably by one who has installed the product on a W211 before. I talked to a couple of different installers before making a final decision (I also asked to see an example of their work).

In my limited experience, the clearcoat has been exceptional as well. Although I only have about 2500 miles so far, I have no paint chips in the front or mirrors (knock on wood). I do have two pits in the windshield, however. I had a got ding on a body line (which was removed) that did not break the clearcoat. Pretty impressive. Hardly a scientific study, however.

Many months ago 'Oslo' stated how he went on a journey on roads and conditions that would I believe have 'peppered' his old 210 with horrible chips, but his new 211 came through without a blemish!! (Oslo is this a fair recollection?)

I truly feel sorry for Harley because after all the advertising and 'Hype' I for one would NOT be a 'happy bunny' with a 'pebble dashed' bonnet. Especially on such a relatively new vehicle. (Thank goodness it is not a dark colour)

Regards
John

Thanks for your concerns Glojo...
I try not to dwell on them, but I always get a little queezy when its time to wash the car as I seem to always find something that wasn't there before. But what the hell.... Its a car, it gets driven, and in reality its just a tool. It still looks great and I must say the nano paint does have an excellent shine that never seems to go away. I think we will all agree that the way a car funtions is most importaint and mine has been flawless...

It's probably been posted before, but when did M-B start spraying the nano-nano paint?

The actual date eludes me but if you do a search under 'nano' you will find it.

The most important point though is your paint code number.

Hell ona Harley has kindly just posted a picture of the letter 'C' in front of the paint code number. This denotes that he has indeed got this new paint. Found on the 'B' pillar.

John
