Another SBC Thread
I'm new to the forum and need some assistance/clarification.
I have a W211 270 CDI from 2003 with a bad SBC unit. Fault codes C2638 Control unit A7/3n1 (SBC control unit internal fault) and C2359 Service Threshold reached.
Bought the car in 2020 for 45k NOK, approximately $4500 USD. Odo is currently at 245 000 km. VIN: WDB2110161A430452
Because of the age of the car, the mileage and the current value I don't want to ask my local MB workshop to fix it.
I estimate they would charge the equivalent of $2500-3000 USD for parts and labour.
After a while, I found a company here in Norway that will refurbish the SBC unit for $900 USD. This is a bit more reasonable, and something I am considering.
Sadly, I don't have Xentry/DAS. I, therefore, got a quote from the local MB workshop to do the brake bleeding procedure required.
So plan was; remove SBC myself, send it to the company that will refurbish it, install it myself when it's refurbished and then take it to the local MB workshop and have them bleed the brakes.
Turns out there is a five week wait to get it refurbished and I'm now looking for other solutions.
I've been scrolling through finn.no(Norwegian craigslist) and found several used SBC units. And also learned there are more part numbers than I assumed!
Luckily Konigstiger helped me find which part numbers suit my VIN. I've also since installed EPC myself and got this:
The odd thing now is that the SBC unit in my car has part number A 005 431 05 12 Q2. Seems like the SBC was replaced already and with a part that is actually not recommended for my VIN.
I've finally found someone who has a used SBC with part number A 009 431 26 12 83 (a bit curious about the last two digits) which I am hoping to buy and will fit my car.
So my actual question is does the "new" SBC have to be programmed of some sort with Xentry/DAS and if so, how much work is it? I have read somewhere that reprogramming is necessary but not to what degree.
Sorry for the long post, and I greatly appreciate any insight!
