Question Where are these E-Class manufactured

Are the E-Class you are all talking about manufactured in the USA or in Germany or somewhere else?

I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but all E-Class cars destined for the United States are/will be built in Germany.

I ordered and put a deposit for an E-class 2003 here in Cairo to be delivered mid September, I find it very strange that Mercedes have assembly facilities in India and Egypt but not in USA!

The cant afford to have them built in the USA. Have you seen the job the USA does with the M Class? They will not .. nah... they cannot let crappy US standards ruin the bread and butter of the MB lineup.

what's funny is that the SLK is also made in the US too (isn't it?) but the SLK doesn't have nearly as much issues as the ML does... now i could be wrong since I only know 1 SLK driver...

Fuzzo,

No SLK's are made in the US.

Nagui Anis,

I have heard that 'some' models are made in countries other than Germany - but not all models. Are 'all' models of MBZ destined for sale in Egypt made in Cairo. All AMG models are made in Affalterbach Germany.

India production

I was led to believe that any Mercedes/BMW production in India was to get around the huge import duties (in India) for any car produced abroad. By shipping in all the parts and having the cars asssembled in India using local workforce, the market does not have to pay the astronomic import duties, which I believe are something like 100% or more.

it also is a lot cheaper to produce them in india and export them to other regions in S.Asia... MB and India both make out..

Only the C and E-classes are made in Cairo, also not all models, only the 200 and 240 and lately the 320 for the new E-Class
Custom duties here for these cars if imported is about 200%
but if assembled in Egypt it is about 100% only
for example the new E-Class classic 240 is about U$70,000 if assembled in Egypt also the Elegance 320 is about U$ 90,000

I also understand that Mercedes has contracted with Magna Steyr (Austria) to assemble the E Class as a means of meeting expected high demand.

We will see Austria's Magnasteer dept create a certain percentage of the new E class to help meet the early demand.

Also, all 4matics are built in the United States along with the ML series trucks.

Sean,

What 4-Matic are you referring too? Not the W210 E-Class? www.MBUSI.com in Alabama only builds the ML.
