E32 M112 Intake Mods

Hey y'all, I have been reading countless threads here about performance intake mods and swaps for the M112, and thought I'd take a jab at having a centralized thread for intake options. A lot of the threads here point to swapping the m112 every which way so I though I'd list some of these options, as well as hear everyone else's takes! The end goal is settling on a good intake setup to install in my '05 E320.

1. Needswings E320 DCAI Kit: I've heard great things about NeedsWings and talking to their customer support, they claim up to a 20hp power gain from this kit.

2. C320 Airbox Swap: There's a lot of threads that claim the C320 airbox is way beefier than the E320 airbox and is a good fit. Some threads claimed it upgrades to a 3" intake and the airbox itself is just way bigger. The problem with this is that I am unsure if I need to use the C320 intake hoses as well. if those will even fit in the E320. I'd assume it would be a similar take and would fit onto the factory grill intake mounts (next to the horns).

3. C320 AMG Airbox Swap: I've only found few mentions of this... any experts know if this would be an easy or beneficial swap?

4. M113 MAF: This one is pretty straightforward. Only problem is that it isn't compatible with the NeedsWings Kit as it comes with an MAF attached. They do not specify it is the M113 or M112 MAF. Will work with C320 airbox though.

5. M113 TB: Direct-bolt on throttle body upgrade for the M112. Increases bore from 68mm to 74mm. Threads discussing the M113 also noticed that the throttle is far snappier.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

From experience, the 2 mods that make an appreciable difference are the 74mm V8 TB and 19# orange injectors from a 500. The large TB absolutely improves throttle response. It's night and day. You have 14# injectors right now. The engine is setup to run at 14.7 aft at all times including acceleration. Larger injectors will give you WOT enrichment. Again big improvement in power. The airbox on the C320 is the same volume. The only larger airbox I found was the S500 and the diff is marginal. No experience with needswings. Don't swap the larger diameter V8 MAF. It causes low speed drivability problems. Tried it, didn't work. The MAF is not a significant restriction.

Thank you for the informative response. I will definitely invest in the M113 TB and injectors from the E500. I'll keep doing some digging between the S500 and NeedsWings setups, I want to generally preserve the factory look but an aftermarket DCAI may look crisp. What year of S500 airboxes should I be looking for?

Cheers!

Sorry I don't remember. The S500 airbox has an extra layer of plastic on top to reduce noise. It's visibly thicker. I doubt it does anything for power. It would be an interesting Dyno tests.

Will a TB and injector swap require any computer tuning or mods, or will adjust itself via the ECU ?
