Hi guys,
First post on the forums and seeing how many things keep breaking im here to stay i think haha.
A few weeks ago i bought a "04" E500 as a project car which is now my daily,
It had some shifting issue's and also suffererd from TCC shudder.
First thing i did was to take out the valvebody and rebuild it with some sonnax parts and all new o-rings for the solenoids, also replaced the conductor plate and poured in some fresh oil with the addition of one of those red tubes of anti shudder fix.
The car shifted great but the Shudder was still there and it also developed some droning while shifting so last week i replaced the torque converter for a new unit but somehow this made everything 10 times worse.
The car now shifts very weird and also the TC has lots of slip, im talking 300 to 400 rpm while going through the gears and many times the rpm just sits at a certain point from the point it shifted till the next shift.
I can also hear a droning sound while shifting and also right before its going to upshift.
Ive read about the TCC adaption process and also seen a few videos where they go through the procedure with DAS and relearn the TCU to the new converter and so i thought i could do this myself being a proud owner of a StarC3 system.
Well for some reason there is no Adaption procedure for the TCC, there's only the information page or procedure description page that can be skipped with F2 like in any other procedure in DAS but there is no option to hit F3 to actually start the adaptation.
Ive searched the internet for days and also visited the dealer to ask but they were all pretty sure there is a adaption procedure for these cars.
I could only find one long thread where someone also mentioned they could only see that info page but he wasnt the OP and sadly his question didnt get any comments.
I will add some photos of the options i have in the TCC adaption section and what they do.
Ive tried it a few times now as i wasnt sure the temps were cold enough as i had the engine running the first time but no matter what i do there is never an option to hit F3.
For instance in the gear shift adaptation menu the F3 button will only pop up if the trans temp is 60C or higher so im guessing its something like this as well for the TCC adaption.
For the TCC it wants temps below 20C which i definitely had everytime ive tried to do this procedure, ive tried P and N, ive tried starting the car while i was in the menu and ive even tried to have a friend sit in the back like MB recommends lol. yeah maybe the engineers tied in the detection sensors in the seats for this idk.
Really hoping some trans gurus on these forums know about the procedures and can tell me if there really is something missing in the software and if maybe something else could cause this after only swapping the TC?.
you have the best tool, but no experience and i can appreciate the fact that you dont want to pull the trigger but biff simply follow the instructions as there is nothing missing and by the way if the icons are correct you have a C4 system not a C3 so now i am confused as do you know what car you drive
Well if that isnt a nice welcome i dont know what is, I really didnt expect i had to defend myself here but it is what it is..
Offcourse i know what car i drive, just because its my first post doesnt mean i'm fresh out of school, ive had several MB cars in the past 20 years and ive been a mechanic all my life so im also pretty on the fact im using an "old" C3 multplexer and dell laptop.
Also, the way you are saying there is nothing missing says to me you never worked with das/xentry before.
This is what i expect to see when the adaptation starts:
