Driveshaft dampeners aren't exclusive to Mercedes and are in all types of vehicles.

They are also available as replacement parts (for W202 but O.P. may want to compare dimensions ) so balancing shouldn't be an issue...

The fact that MB is not using them in ALL of their driveshafts means something: either needed because something in the particular shaft design (by design, or corrective), or perhaps more sinister making it a non-replaceable part (being sarcastic here).
Thank you for the links as well.

I am having the same issue, vibration when my car accelerates only, only thing we found bad was this vibration damper. nobody at mercedes has any idea what it is and this is the only place i’ve been able to find anything about one. did anyone find out if it’s okay to just take it off, and why do only some of these have them and most don’t? did they make multiple rwd driveshafts for the w211 e350? or is it the same shaft just some have the damper and some don’t. help would be much appreciated
