Question Black vs. Obsidian Black

I am about to place my order for a 2003 E320. I am contemplating between Black and Obisidian Black. Is Obsidian black a true black metallic or does it have a hint of gray or blue? My thinking is that Obsidian Black holds up better to swirls marks, etc.

Thanks for any feedback.

Obsibian Black is nice. It is Black but sometimes looks like a dark charcoal up close when dirty. However, no one would refer to it as gray. My 98 E430 was Obsidian.

It is black with metallic that some times looks like dark grey/brown, looks very nice.

Thanks for the input. I've changed my order to Obsidian Black. I can't wait for this car to our shores.

I currently have obsidian black.
Looks like jet black unless light is direct, then the metallic effect is apparent.
There is no hint of gray.
Swirls may be slightly less noticeable, but not too much of an advantage.
The only downside to obsidian is that touch up work (If ever necessary) is trickier than for non-metallic paint.

Obsidian Black vs. Black

Having owned several black cars, I keep swearing to myself that I will never own another Black car again. Obsidian Black is my new choice for my 2003 Benz. Why? First of all, metallic paint is more durable, especially on larger cars. It contains metal particles that actually refract direct light, so spiderwebbing, swirl marks and scratches are not seen similar to those lighter colors on cars! Secondly, obsidian looks black, it is black, but on a very sunny day, it looks slightly lighter, which is actually better because dust and dirt will not show as badly as black.

Obsidian is definately the way to go. My cousin just got a C32AMG in the black opal metallic (which has the blue tinge to it)

Obsidian is basically black.

well, i don't have a E-class but my C32 AMG is obsidian black...the swirl marks are horrible, but i guess any dark color car will have horrible swirl marks.

IMO obsidian blk is much better because during the night it looks like jet blk and during the day it is different.

If your C32 in obsidian shows tons of swirl marks imagine how many you would see with flat black.

The metallic particles in the paint do help refract light.

Not unless you put a polarizer filter on your camera.
