S211 (Wagon) Rear view camera
Does anyone have any tips or experience on how to wire a back up camera in a 2004 E-class wagon?
Especially on how to run the cable from the license plate inside. Once I am there it is pretty similar to a sedan.
I am going to install the camera on the license plate.
From there I thought to run the cable through the cable hose at the right top hinge.
That hose runs on top of the headliner. No idea where it goes from there. I would like to prevent removing the headliner.
Option1 would be to make a hole in the hose and run the cable back down under the D-pillar rubber to the outer tail light. Con: part of the wire would be exposed between the boot and the D-pillar. (just a couple of mm)
Option 2 would be to find a way from above the headliner down into the C-pillar. But I am not sure if that is possible.
Any other ideas?

You will need an electrician's cable threader. From the rear of the car youll be able to thread the cable through to the RHS front A pillar then thread it down the pillar and into the dash via the rear of the glovebox.

previous owner ran all the lines and installed the camera in mine but left the module and everything in my glove box. its on the list of things to do
for running the wires, take off the hatch interior trim and follow all the wires the same way through the loom in the corner. Im going to most likely end up redoing everthing anyway since i want to upgrade the radio to something more carplay friendly

I have a camera to install on my S211, I bought a camera to go in the number plate lamp and a 2.4Ghz wireless kit. Testing the wireless kit before fitting, I found the receiver and transmitter get very hot and the video quality was not great. Then I found the replacement lamp unit to be different so the camera needs mounting elsewhere. This job is currently on the to do list!
