Sun roof stuck open, motor makes clicking noise when trying to close

It will open but won't shut! Is there a way to manually close it?

If you only can move it a few centimetres at the time, by the switch, it's need to synchronized - move it all the way back and forward - after that it's normally synchronised and will open and close by one touch at the sunroof switch.

2008 E350 (W211 @170K), 2012 ML350 (W166 @119K), 2014 E350 Sport (W212 @96K), 2015 ML350 (W166 @92K)
If it is clicking because the gear is missing on the mechanism, I would not activate it again. The gear and the sunroof mechanism will wear out sooner.

If you know how to disassemble the roof console, you can manually move the sunroof with a hex key until you decide to repair it. It assumes the sunroof is still aligned and not moving asymmetrically.

There are some videos out there

Different vehicle, but the idea is nearly identical to every MB out there. All of them use the same sunroof principle

Each model has a slightly different failure mode:
1 - Broken gear
2 - Worn out rubber supports (dampers) . Seen it on the W211, W204 platform.

It won't close! It just makes the clicking noise! I know how to sync it it! It sounds like something is stripped or catching
