Hello. I have mercedes e200 w211 avantgarde mod 2006-2008 184hp. I have a battery problem, a red indicator on the counter. I changed it but it still gives me the same problem sometimes. When the problem occurs, the idle engine knocks, the revs drop and the battery voltage drops to 12 volts and gives me the erro I am sending in the photo. I turn it off the engine and put it back on and it works normally. Battery voltage reaches normal levels of 13.8-14 volts. What could be happening? Does it have a second battery? I did not find under the filter. Any help welcome. Thanks.

It's a little vague but the 2006 model has SBC but not 2007/2008 so we really don't know what you mean by 2006-2008, the year matters. SBC had the aux battery, 2007-2009 did not. There's a voltage regulator in the alternator that can be going and normally you just replace the entire alternator.
What country are you in? The year convention changes in different countries. If you don't have SBC then there's no aux battery. So it's probably a weak alternator. I'm not sure about your year because at some point they got rid of the battery control module and I think if you don't have SBC, you probably don't have a battery control module either so it's probably just the alternator. I think I replaced mine when it was at 90k miles but different engine and probably different alternator, still they don't last forever. You could also get your battery load tested, there's the odd chance you just have a defective one but they're usually good for a long while. Mine is still original at over 15 years, but it's starting to get weak.
