2004 E320 Wagon - Cargo area light issue

Every interior light in the wagon works as it should, except for the three lights in the cargo/hatch area. As you know, there is one light located on each side and one on the hatch door itself. None of the three come on when the hatch is opened. Third brake light works, as well as license plate lights, tail lights and rear fog. Good bulbs in all three of these lights, and no DTC's indicated for any module with the CarSoft MBII. I believe that there is no fuse as control is through the CAN bus. The left and right automatic rollers for the cargo cover also work fine.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Have you checked the bulbs that they are actually good? Chances of all of them being burnt at the same time is small, but not impossible. If the filament is good, use multimeter to determine which is missing, negative or positive.

All bulbs are good. Swapped around with known good ones.

Did you ever resolve this?

I never did. Its still not working, and I kind of gave up on it. Everything that is supposed to control that light seems to be okay, so I have to believe it is the rear SAM. I assume you are having the same issue?
