Looking for Opinions
My 2003 (Jan Build) E 500 has been back to the service bay numerous times for various major and minor fixes: Motor mounts (thanks to this board), front springs (two weeks after delivery), audio gateway, cooling fan, rear shocks (acting up again, about to go in for the THIRD set), wheel bearing adjustment, out of alignment drivers window, broken trunk latch...
I just got my recall notice regarding the SBC brake recall and I am ready to explode, this is one of the most beautiful vehicles on the road today and, in my case, it's built like crap. Totally understand the "first model year bugs" etc. but it's becoming a chore to maintain this thing.
Since none of the items qualify me for the lemon law in NY I was wondering if anyone has had any success negotiating a buyback with MB. The car is a lease with 15 months left and buyout versus KBB value has me about $10K underwater. I am aware of a few instances where MB has done a "collateral swap" putting people into new cars but I am unsure if I want to go into another MB product given my experience (this was my first MB).

The brake recall really only applies to taxis in Europe.. Although they are taking steps on all our cars. There are many posts here..

My '04 is a NICE car! I was really concerned about getting my 1st MB after all the bad press on the '03s, but don't regret the purchase 1 bit. It has the very very occaisional crazy display of fine MB electronics, but they always fix themselves & don't repeat. Why not call MB in NJ & have a heart to heart?

I guarantee you if you call them to complain about your car, you will hang up feeling ten times worse about MB.
