Oil grade

Hello advice please,

W211 face lift 2.8 V6 diesel.

I have not got the hand book,is this oil ok for the engine. I have about four gallons left from a previous purchase and it seems a shame to not be able to use it.

also, does my model have a diesel particulate filter?

regards
JohnT

API CF synthetic diesel oil, that's all you need to know. Use it.

Run your VIN through lastvin.com and look for it. Code 474, I think.

[10W-60 oil will not have a Mercedes approval. I would be a bit concerned with whether 60 weight oil will flow easily enough to lubricate the valve train properly. Or will it drain down quickly enough to avoid flooding the top engine and causing leaks.]

Yes, 474 is correct. My '06 has it.

OP here,
Thank you every one for taking the time to respond, I have checked on the “last vin” site. No code 474 shown so I presume I have no dpf fitted, is that good or bad, I am not sure.
Seems the consensus is to not use the oil, I will go with that.

ps, All the production codes are amazing, never come across this kind of stuff before.

Stick around. You’ll be amazed what you can learn here. Many of the members are serious amateurs and some are actually MB service techs. W204’s are just the right age to benefit — parts are still readily available and they’re not cell phones on wheels.

Hello Odd Piggy,
I need to upgrade my record of cars. Current one is a 2007 W211 2.8 CDI Avantgarde. In the past I have had seven Merc cars and three trucks.
This car I bought in March this year with genuine 11k miles. Very pleased with it so far.

My previous replies were based on that. My posts make more sense when my brain is in gear.
